Music has always been a part of Frank's family environment,
but he never gave it any serious consideration until
he entered the service. He bought his first harmonica
while stationed in Norfolk, Va. and spent many hours
learning to play while aboard ship. After his discharge
from the service he moved to New England and was discoverd
by Lee White who taught him to play the guitar. He started
out by calling square dances and doing guest appearances
with White's band.
In the 40's Pierce teamed up with Slim Pinson and played
on WCOP's "Hayloft Jamboree". During his younger
days he played all over New England, finally making
his home in Wells, Maine.Pierce also ran his horse barn
and farrier business.
In the 70's he played for four years with the "Rhythm
Kings" at the Voltiguer Club in Biddeford, Maine.
Later he took various jobs with his band, "The
Country Hot Shots".
One of his biggest thrills was playing with Red Sovine.
Pierces's managerial skills came into play when he helped
several local clubs get off the ground by teaching them
how to chose and pick the best entertainment. Later
on he formed his band "Now Country Band" with
Gus Fiore, Larry Gilbert, Ronnie Chase, Renee Marie,
and Stcy Stanton. They played weekly ,for several years,
at the Firehouse Pub in Wells. During the summer of
1989, along with partner Joan Cole operated the "Country
Music Lounge" in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. After
that they held dances and shows at "The Pioneer
Function Hall" in Wells, working with the country
music associations of Maine. They promoted country music
and helped new artists start their careers in country
music.
Pierce was awarded "Pioneer Award" by Down
East Country Music Association in 1994.
"Daddy" Frank Pierce passed away February
26, 2004.
